Military Skydivers Set New World Record with 103 Tandem Jumps
(Tampa, FL – April 16) Two veteran skydivers from the U. S. Special Operations Command set a Guinness World Record for the number of tandem jumps in a 24 hour period and raised awareness and funds for their favorite charity, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
Chip Bowlin and Kristine Gould, both Lieutenant Colonels, set the record with 103 tandem jumps yesterday in Zephyrhills, Fla.
The difference between typical solo skydiving and tandem parachuting is with tandem style two people are attached together. One person is the passenger, the other the tandem-master. The passenger is simply along for the ride while the tandem-master has all the jump responsibilities.
However, Bowlin and Gould had six specially designed parachute rigs that allow the passenger to also have the control to pull the chutes. These rigs, created by Strong Enterprises, provided the duo with an extra level of safety.
Between them, Bowlin and Gould have served in the military's elite special operations community for more than 35 years. Bowlin says using their parachuting skills to raise money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation seemed like a natural fit.
“We've both raised families during our military careers and we want to ensure that all special operations warriors have this same security.”
