(Tampa, FL) – A beautiful day of fishing and fellowship netted plenty of fish and a lot of money for the Tampa-based Special Operations Warrior Foundation on May 21st. A fleet of 14 fishing boats skippered by some of Tampa Bay's most skilled guides, made off from the St. Pete Times Forum in downtown Tampa for their favorite "honey holes” to compete for prizes and bragging rights in the first annual Tim Marcum Celebrity Fishing Tournament to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

The tournament was the brainchild of Tim Marcum, the legendary Tampa Bay Storm football coach who has won 7 Arena Football League championships. Coach Marcum chose the Special Operations Warrior Foundation as the beneficiary. "Us being next to MacDill Air Force Base makes this just a perfect fit. It's a heck of a cause.” MacDill is the home base of the U.S. Special Operations Command, which oversees special operations units from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. The Warrior Foundation provides college educations for the children of special operators who fall in combat or training operations as well as emergency stipends that help family members travel to the bedside of severely wounded warriors.

The festivities started the night before at O'Brien's Irish Pub in nearby Brandon, Florida. In addition to door prizes and a fabulous silent auction, the party goers enjoyed unlimited food and drink. The "official business” of the night was the matching of celebrities and captains with their lucky anglers. Among the celebrities joining the fun were former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, local sports radio talk host J.P. Peterson and the Coach himself, Tim Marcum.

While the food, spirits and fun were great, the real goal was to raise money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and on that score the First Annual Tim Marcum Celebrity Fishing Tournament was a big winner, bringing in an estimated $12,000. Perhaps best of all, Coach Marcum promises that next year's tournament will be bigger and better!
